Figuring out what is truly natural and what isn’t is often confusing

At Burt's Bees, we are excited about the growing momentum of making every day lives more natural or green, especially with the increasing understanding of the benefits of natural personal care. Yet, it is unfortunate to see many companies are labeling products as natural that truly aren’t.

How many products claiming to be "Natural" or "Made from Nature" or "Nature-inspired" – are really natural? Unfortunately, very few are. In fact, most of them include a combination of synthetic ingredients and a small amount of natural ingredients, like aloe or lavender oil.

We encourage you to go take a look in your bathroom cabinet, on your bedside table, in your shower, and even in your baby’s room, to see what’s really in the “natural” products you own. To help, we developed a guide on how to read personal care labels to discover what’s really in your products and ultimately, to help you determine how natural the products truly are. Our goal is to empower you to make educated decisions that are best for you and your family.

Please go take a look and come back here to let us know what you find.

We’re buzzing about our new ad campaign

Our new national ad campaign is focused on helping you improve your health and well-being by showing the benefits of natural ingredients vs. synthetic alternatives - especially those with suspected human health risks to you and your children. For example, in one ad, we highlight the beeswax that we use in our Replenishing Lip Balm with petrolatum, a non-renewable hydrocarbon made from crude oil. With an estimated 60% of what goes on your skin being absorbed into your body, we think you have a right to know exactly what you’re putting on your skin and to avoid ingredients with potential risks.

The images we use in our ads emphasize the beauty, preciousness and vulnerability of your skin. Our ads primarily show women, uncluttered and in natural surroundings, to demonstrate that nature protects and cares for your skin and that Burt's Bees, as a truly natural product, will do the same for you. We truly believe that your skin should never be subject to ingredients that could be potentially harmful to your health, especially petrochemicals, sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, chemical sunscreens, and DMDM Hydantoin.

If you have any other questions about the ads, products, or anything else about Burt's Bees, please contact me any time.
