At Burt's Bees, we are excited about the growing momentum of making every day lives more natural or green, especially with the increasing understanding of the benefits of natural personal care. Yet, it is unfortunate to see many companies are labeling products as natural that truly aren’t.
How many products claiming to be "Natural" or "Made from Nature" or "Nature-inspired" – are really natural? Unfortunately, very few are. In fact, most of them include a combination of synthetic ingredients and a small amount of natural ingredients, like aloe or lavender oil.
We encourage you to go take a look in your bathroom cabinet, on your bedside table, in your shower, and even in your baby’s room, to see what’s really in the “natural” products you own. To help, we developed a guide on how to read personal care labels to discover what’s really in your products and ultimately, to help you determine how natural the products truly are. Our goal is to empower you to make educated decisions that are best for you and your family.
Please go take a look and come back here to let us know what you find.

For years I have been preaching the health and beauty benefits Burt's products gives me. Tuesday I went to an Arbonne party, had a facial and applied a lotion for aging skin. The next day I ahd two pimples at my nose and a whitehead on my cheek. While Arbonne claims natural, their ingredients include pore-cloggers and irritants. Burt's Peach & Willowbark Scrub has cleared my skin in the 1 month I've used it, and in two days COMPLETELY got rid of the acne the other product caused. READ LABLES and learn ingredients. It's easier than you think!
I'm confused. I was really excited when I got pregnant and my mom found "Burts Bees Belly Butter". I immediatelly started using it. It is very hard to find anything without "parfum" or synthetic fragrances--I was sooo excited.
I was completely bummed to see that synthetic fragnances made it into the belly butter.
Of all things...the belly butter??? I am not too impressed.
Thanks Natalie for adding your comments! We now have a downloadable wallet card that will help you to quickly decipher ingredients while you're shopping. Let us know if you'd like a copy!
Keri -- we understand your concern. We are committed to exclusively using blends of natural oils in formulating our fragrances whenever possible. However, it is sometimes necessary for us to use synthetic ingredients in our fragrances in order to sufficiently mix the fragrance with the product formula base and to keep the product stable. Our long term goal is to reformulate all of our products to be 100% natural.
We understand that doesn't address your immediate concern, so please contact us if you would like a replacement or refund of your purchase. Please contact us directly at information@burtsbees.com
I'm very much concerned about organic cosmetic products. I would like to have a copy of the downloadable wallet card to help me decipher ingredients while shopping.
Your goal to reformulate your products to be 100% natural is beautiful; however i really think 90% natural is still very high (especially compared to other companies' products)Keri needs not be bothered
Thanks for your feedback Mark.
