We've received many questions about our pending merger with The Clorox Company, and I want to openly address those questions. Let me first say that Burt’s Bees is a very unique company with a great history – one that unfolds with a passionate adherence to its founding principles.
This company was founded on two simple and profound beliefs: Natural products work in harmony with our bodies to promote balance and well-being; and we should respect, preserve and improve the precious resource of our environment. These founding principles have guided this company - they are, and will continue to be the core of the business. I assure you that the brand and products we all know and love will not change!
The Clorox Company recognizes the value of our unwavering commitment to the quality of our products and the personality of our brand – it’s what makes us so special. We will continue, without compromise, to develop the best natural personal care formulas, environmentally sensitive packaging and nature-safe manufacturing processes. We will remain guided by our mission to Make people’s lives better every day, naturally.
I’m not asking you to judge us by our words, rather by our continued actions and commitments to our principles. In the months ahead, our actions will reflect our commitment to great natural personal care as well as bring to life our passion for people and the environment.
Clorox’s resources will help us reach our lofty goals and broaden access to truly natural personal care. We will collaborate to drive innovation in sustainable manufacturing and positively impact our communities and the Earth. I will give you an honest and transparent progress report in six months time and, in the meantime, welcome the continuing dialogue.
Thank you for your support and loyalty – you are an integral part of what Burt’s Bees is today! We invite your continued feedback so that we can evolve further to enhance your path to well-being.
~ John Replogle, President and CEO

Having worked at private companies that were acquired by public ones, I have (I believe) a healthy suspicion that Burt's Bees will not remain 100% true to its standards. Financial pressures from above seem always to lead to compromise. In your 6-month status report, please address how you intend to prevent this from happening in the following 6 months -- or 6 years.
I understand Clorox has resources that will allow Burts Bees to grow as a company . . . but Burts Bees is environmentally aware . . . and Clorox is not. Clorox continues to create products with harmful ingredients including phosphates, which are horrible for our water supply. I just wish if Burts Bees were going to pair up w/ a company, it would be a company that has a genuine interest in the earth, not to mention the health of its users.
It really is disheartening when a good company feels it must merge with a large corporation in order to grow. It is doubly so when the good company is "green" and the large corporation is not. I'll use up my stock, but will not repurchase. I will NOT contribute to the Clorox Corporation until they revamp their entire corporation policy.
